Barry is the first of ten sons to be born to Arnold and Joyce Knudsen. He joined them on June 18th, while the couple was living in Davenport, Iowa. At thirteen years old he was assigned to sing bass in the newly formed Knudsen Brothers quintet by default, as he was the only brother whose voice had changed. As an adult, however, Barry’s strong, wide range has been a huge asset to the brothers’ blend. Known for his solid falsetto and rich mid-range, Barry also provides his own distinctive horn to the overall sound of SIX.
Barry’s interests are varied, but certain patterns can be detected when you consider his favorite movie is Splash, he enjoys boating and Sea-Dooing, his favorite musical artist is Liquid Mind, and his favorite food is sushi. He also enjoys watching streaming Netflix, napping, Xbox 360 Kinect, and computers. His favorite color is purple.
Barry was more than happy to quit his day job in favor of being a full time entertainer. Some of those day jobs included: security guard, accounting/payroll, singing telegrams, data entry, landscape maintenance, construction, and human resources manager.
His favorite memory from a gig is the audience reaction to them winning the 1990 Harmony Sweepstakes. He described it as “a wall of emotional energy so great that it literally knocked me back a step.” A truly unforgettable experience.
“Mellow spectrum of Smooth Jazz genre, non-weird spectrum of New Age, Melodic Vocal Trance, Boston, Def Leppard, and Karen Carpenter” are Barry’s fairly eclectic musical influences.
Having spent the majority of his life in the notoriously tough entertainment business, Barry has learned many life lessons and gained a certain amount of wisdom. Something quite evident in his choice for favorite quote: “Advice: Wise people don’t need it; fools don’t heed it.” Adapted from Benjamin Franklin’s original quote: “Wise men don’t need advice. Fools won’t take it.”
Barry is married and has four children. He currently resides in Branson, Missouri.
